How do you create your handprinted fabric?

To learn more about my design studio, inspirations and the process click here.  You can also learn more by following my blog.

Do you do custom work?

Yes, I can design and create custom slipcovers, pillow covers and other soft furnishings using your own fabric, fabric from my library or fabric from my hand printed collection.  Custom hand printed fabric designs can also be created for your project based on a minimum order.  Please drop me a line with your project details for more information.

What designer resources do you have available?

I have relationships with leading manufactures, distributors and vendors specializing in textiles, furniture, lighting and countless other areas.  I also have strong relationships with freight forwarders and shipping companies to help get your selections on island as quickly and cost-effectively as possible.

Is your collection of home furnishings eco-friendly and green?

Yes, the entire hand printing process is as natural and eco-friendly as possible.  I use 100% Hemp fabric.  Hemp is naturally organic and does not require any pesticides or herbicides when growing, and is a renewable resource which can be cultivated in as little as 100 days.  It’s soft and luxurious to the touch, and as an added bonus, it’s  naturally resistant to mold, mildew, and UV rays.  Fabric is printed using water-based textile inks which do not contain any PVC, phthalates, lead or any other heavy metals.  The inks are also free from ozone-depleting chemicals such as CFC’s, HCFC’s, aromatic hydrocarbons and other solvents.  In addition, the inks do not require solvents for clean up, just plain water!  Thread used for sewing is all natural 100% cotton.

How do I care for my hand printed items?

Items made from hand printed fabric are surprising easy to care for.  Wash with like colors, in cool water on a gentle cycle.  Bleach should not be used.  Hang drying is recommended as it helps reduce wrinkles in the fabric, and dryer heat tends to be harsh on natural fibers.  However you may machine dry your item on a low or air setting.  Iron as needed using the appropriate setting for the fabric.  Individual care instructions are included with each item.

How long will it take to receive my order?  How is my order shipped?

If your selection is in stock, your order will ship within 72 hours from the time it is received.  For items that are not available, please allow 2-4 weeks depending on weather (remember hand printed fabric is all done outside and is subject to island conditions).  Custom orders and large orders may require additional time.  You will receive confirmation once your order has shipped.  After your order leaves the studio, individual shipping times vary.  All orders ship from the U.S. Virgin Islands via US Postal Service Priority Mail or Express Mail for expedited orders.

Where is St. John?

Located in the Caribbean Sea, about 50 miles East of Puerto Rico, St. John is the smallest of the three U.S. Virgin Islands (St. Thomas and St. Croix are the other U.S. Virgins).  The island is only nine miles long and three miles wide, and two-thirds of the island is protected by the National Park.  There is no airport on St. John, however it is easily accessible by ferry boat from St. Thomas.  The U.S. Virgin Islands are a U.S. Territory, so English is spoken, the U.S. dollar is used, and no passport is need to visit if you are a U.S. citizen.  The weather is always warm, and cool tradewind breezes flow effortlessly through the island.  It's an ideal place to design and create!

What are the flowers on your website?

They are dendrobium orchids from my garden.  This particular plant blooms once a year in November, just in time for my birthday.  Orchids are classically elegant in shape, yet their diverse colors are full of wonder and discovery.  These imaginative tropical residents epitomize Caribbean Chic!
